MILWAUKEE – Gaco Western, manufacturer of the most technologically advanced elastomeric coatings and polyurethane spray foam for the construction and waterproofing industries, announced today that Dan Nelson will lead the company’s research and development arm as the new vice president of R&D at its manufacturing facility in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

“As a company we’re continuously focused on product innovation and advancement – assembling a world-class R&D team is paramount to that,” said Peter Davis, president and CEO of Gaco Western. “Dan’s extensive experience leading technology and research in the coatings industry speaks for itself; he’s going to make a significant contribution to our future growth.”

Nelson brings more than 25 years of experience to his new position. He has a lengthy background in polymer science both in coatings applications and formulations, as well as resin synthesis. During his career he’s managed teams with as many as 55 direct reports. Dan was previously with James Hardie Building Products where he was responsible for intellectual property management, corporate quality, building practices, coatings development, technical service and analytical labs. He’s served as the director of R&D, quality and purchasing for Diamond Vogel Corp. and was the global technology manager for the CASPI division of the Eastman Chemical Company. Nelson started his career with SC Johnson Polymer where he held progressive technical roles and led the establishment of its coatings polymer business in the Asia Pacific region.

“I’m very excited to be a part of such a progressive organization – Gaco has great differentiated technology, a rich history and cultural values that empower and motivate its employees,” said Dan Nelson, Gaco’s vice president of R&D. “Our executive team has established aggressive growth goals and the company is currently investing in the talent needed to achieve and exceed them.”

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.
