Lower Energy Costs, Cleaner Air

NEW! Gaco WallFoam insulation reduces your household's carbon footprint. Read more . . .

Since 1955, Gaco Western has manufactured technologically-advanced waterproofing and insulation materials for the construction industry.  Through the years, Gaco has focused on reduced energy usage and cleaner air - developing products which minimize impact on the environment:

  • Spray Polyurethane Foam Insulation reduces energy costs and fossil fuel use.
  • VOC Compliant Coatings meet most air quality district requirements in the United States.
  • Solventless Coatings mean other trades can continue work during application.
  • Highly Reflective Roof Coatings reflect back the sun's rays, keeping interiors cooler.

Our innovative waterproofing and insulation systems are designed with the following global concerns in mind:

The Heat Island Effect

Dark materials absorb and retain heat from the sun. In the sun a black surface can be as much as 70°F or 40°C. For the individual this heat immediately translates to higher costs associated with the air conditioning bills. When many dark or black roofs are crowded together in a city a temperature phenomenon occurs known as a “Heat Island”. The term "Heat Island" refers to urban air and surface temperatures that are higher than nearby rural areas. Many U.S. cities and suburbs have air temperatures up to 10°F (5.6°C) warmer than the surrounding natural land cover.

Oil and Natural Gas Usage

OIL CRISIS
"Conventional petroleum production will soon ? perhaps in five years, ten at best - no longer be able to satisfy demand. For their part, American consumers would do well to take a cue from their Western European counterparts, who enjoy a comfortable lifestyle despite a per capita use of petroleum that is half of that in the United States. The sooner the United States begins this transition away from oil, the easier it will be."

NATURAL GAS CRISIS
United States natural gas production history shows that new wells are being depleted more quickly all the time; production from the newest wells have been declining about 28% per year.

Global Warming and Fossil Fuels

According to the Department of Energy, global warming is accelerated by the half billion tons plus of carbon dioxide Americans release while heating and cooling their homes and businesses each year. The energy created for heating and cooling purposes also generates about 24% of our country's sulfur dioxide and 12% of our nitrogen oxides, the leading causes of acid rain.
