GacoFlex E-5511 is a two component 100% solids epoxy primer.
A general purpose primer/sealer/surfacer for use on concrete substrates and as a masonry block filler. It adheres well to most metals, polymeric coatings, wood, masonry and vitreous surfaces.
Both Part A and Part B are slightly viscous fluids. Combined, the mixture becomes a thixotropic easy spreading liquid.
Not intended for continuous exterior use, unless completely covered with aggregate of choice.
Good solvent, fair acid, excellent alkali resistance.
Cures to form a hard coating material in 12 hours. However, approximately 7 days at 60°F to 80°F (16°C to 27°C) is required to achieve maximum hardness.
Non flammable.
Part B contains a polyamide resin which may cause skin sensitization. Care should be taken to thoroughly clean with soap and water any skin areas that are contacted by GacoFlex E-5511. Undiluted vinegar is very effective in neutralizing coating that contacts the skin. If the coating should get in the eye, flush with water and call a physician.
Excellent adhesion to most surfaces. Most coating materials have excellent adhesion to GacoFlex E-5511 when applied according to instructions.
Coverage is one gallon per 100 to 200 square feet (3.78 L / 9.3 to 18.6 m²) depending on substrate profile and porosity.
One year.
Thinning of GacoFlex E-5511 is not recommended. However, GacoFlex T-5112 or T-5130 thinners can be used (5% by volume) for thinning and cleaning.
Stir Part A and Part B separately for uniformity using a power mixer. Mix one volume of Part A with one volume of Part B. Mix thoroughly for 5-7 minutes. Power mixing recommended for quantities over two quarts.
The pot life is 1 1/2 hours at 75°F (24°C). Pot life at 55°F (13°C) is doubled, but at 100°F (38°C) it is reduced to 45 minutes.
Use a flat plate squeegee when GacoFlex E-5511 is used on concrete. If blow holes form as the primer cures, make a second pass. Allow 5 to 10 minutes between passes. On rough porous surfaces, the application rate is one gallon per 100 to 125 square feet (3.78 L / 9.3 to 11.6 m²).
For application to smooth surfaces, apply at a rate of one gallon per 200 square feet (3.78 L / 20 m²).
Do NOT apply to surfaces which are below 50°F (10°C) or above 110°F (43°C).
Polyurethane coatings can be applied over GacoFlex E-5511 as soon as it is thoroughly set but no longer than 48 hours. This degree of cure is normally achieved in twelve hours. Neoprene sheet flashing should not be applied directly to GacoFlex E-5511 until it has cured overnight.
