GacoFlex U-62

Gaco Western's U-62 coating is a 100% solids, two component fire retarded liquid urethane rubber.

USAGE

Intended for use as a two component, high build base and finish coat on mechanical room floors and walking and vehicular traffic decks where coatings require good weathering, toughness, wear resistance and good solvent resistance. Suitable substrates include plywood and properly primed concrete or metal. When used as a base coat, U-62 must be top coated within 7 days in order to achieve good top coat adhesion.

RATINGS

GacoFlex U-62 as specified in the GW-15-U62 urethane coating system, conforms to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility guidelines as published by the US Access Boards for static coefficient recommendations.

COLORS

  • U-6201 Oyster
  • U-6202 Pewter
  • U-6216 Shale

U-6201 Oyster should only be used in interior applications.

  • ASTM D-412
  • Strength:
    • 2250 psi (15.51 MPa)
    • Change in % after exposure ASTM D3137, Hydrolytic Stability 6 months at 100ºF (37.8ºC): - 5%
  • Elongation:
    • 250% ± 25
    • Change in % after exposure ASTM D3137, Hydrolytic Stability 6 months at 100ºF (37.8ºC): 36%
  • Permanent Set at Break: 25% Max.

HARDNESS

ADHESION

  • ASTM D-903
  • 20 Lbs./lineal inch (3.58 kg / cm), cohesive failure
Adheres well to wood, neoprene, Hypalon® coatings, acrylic coatings and Gaco Western primers. Primer is required for masonry, concrete and metal. See primer recommendations below for these and other surfaces. GacoFlex U-62 can be recoated when set to touch or as much as 7 days between coats may be allowed, so long as the surface is clean and dry.

WATER ABSORPTION

  • ASTM D-471 Max.
  • 96 Hours R.T.: Less than 2.5%

WATER VAPOR PERMEABILITY

  • ASTM E-96 Procedure B Max.
  • 100% R.H. Difference at 70°F (21°C) 0.12 Perm Inches (3 mm)
  • 100% R.H. Difference at 100°F (38°C) 0.10 Perm Inches (2.54 mm)

FLAMMABILITY

ASTM E-108 (UL 790) Class A. Consult Gaco Western for specific recommendations.

TOXICITY

The isocyanate component contains polymeric MDI isocyanate that is toxic if heated in a confined area or inhaled as particulate matter. Consequently, an air supply respirator is required for spray application and containers of Iso should not be warmed above 120ºF (49ºC). However, heating of either component to 150ºF (66ºC) is acceptable when using plural component spray equipment.

FLASH POINT

ASTM D-56 (Tag Closed Cup): Above 200ºF (93ºC)

STORAGE STABILITY

  • Polyol: One year at 50ºF to 80ºF (10º to 27ºC)
  • Isocyanate: One year at 50ºF to 80ºF (10º to 27ºC)

THINNER

Thinning to extend pot life or for roller or squeegee application is permitted. Thin U-62 up to 10% with T-5135, T-5111 or T-5112 only. Thinning 2-5% generally provides adequate viscosity reduction.

CAUTION: The use of other thinners will alter the curing and affect the final properties of the membrane.

APPLICATION

PRIMER

  • Wood: Self prime with a thin film of 4-6 mils.
  • Concrete: E-5481
  • Metals Other Than Copper: U-5677
  • Copper: U-5677

MIXING

WARNING: U-62 components cannot be cross mixed with other urethane coating components.

The polyol and isocyanate components must be premixed until there is a uniform color and consistency. Pre mix polyol (A side) until it displays consistent color. The Iso (B side) requires less mixing, however, when opening a sealed container the color shall be amber and free of any semi-cured film or build-up. If otherwise noted contact Gaco Western prior to use. Power mixing is essential. Insufficient mixing will result in undercured, defective coating. Equal volumes of polyol and iso components shall be mixed for a minimum of 4 minutes using a minimum ½" (12 mm) drill with round mud or squirrel cage type mixer. Insufficient mixing will result in tacky uncured defective membrane.

POT LIFE

20 to 25 minutes at 70ºF (21ºC). At higher temperatures, the pot life decreases considerably. If the containers are stored at 80°F or above, the pot life will be 10-15 minutes. To increase the pot life, store container below 70°F, or thin as necessary.

APPLICATION

Normally applied by roller, notch trowel or squeegee. Material may be modified for spray application using plural component spray equipment.

CURE

Applied coating will set in 8 hours at 70ºF (21ºC) and can be used for light foot traffic after 16-24 hours cure. For vehicular traffic, an additional 48 hours is necessary.

RECOAT

Can be recoated when dry to the touch. Maximum recoat time is 7 days. Prime with GacoFlex U-5677 or E-2465 primer if recoat interval exceeds 7 days.

NOTE

See General Instructions GW-3-1 or MSDS for safety and storage notes.
