Fequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of slope is needed?

A: An average slope of at least one-quarter inch per foot (6.4 mm per 30 cm) is recommended.

Q: How many coats are necessary?

A: Coating requirements vary according to the type of deck coating used. Latex requires 4 coats. Urethane applied with a trowel requires only 2 coats. Urethane applied with a roller requires 3 coats.

Q: How many consecutive days of dry weather are required?

A: Five days of dry weather are necessary to coat the deck and allow time for the coating to cure. The deck can be covered or tented to allow work to continue during wet weather. If the deck coating is rained on during the coating process, the surface must dry completely before continuing.

Q: Do I have to use ½-inch plywood as recommended in your General Instructions?

A: One-quarter inch plywood buckles between fasteners, no matter how carefully you nail it. You may still see some bowing with three-eighths inch plywood. One-half inch is recommended.
