GacoFlex UA-7090 crystal-clear aliphatic urethane was the perfect solution for "saving the whales."
The distinctive whale murals on the Quality Inn located in downtown Seattle, Washington had become soiled, and several areas had begun to loosen from the concrete substrate and chip off. It was imperative that great care be taken in the repair and preservation of the murals as they were painted in 1994 by noted Hawaiian artist, Robert Wyland.
Gaco Western came to the rescue with the state-of-the-art coating, GacoFlex UA-7090 clear aliphatic urethane. This revolutionary crystal-clear coating is both UV-resistant and non-yellowing. GacoFlex UA-7090 has very high physical properties and does not hide underlying color or patterns, thus providing the perfect solution for "saving the whales."
Seattle painting contractor, Long Painting , was awarded the project. They began by power-washing the entire mural. Next, they touched up damaged areas by airbrush, using carefully matched paint colors. This repair work was followed by a protective coat of long-lasting GacoFlex UA-7090 aliphatic urethane.
The restoration brought back the beauty of Mr. Wyland's original rendering and ensured that the mural will be enjoyed for many years to come.
In 1998 the hotel became La Quinta Inn and Suites, but the murals endure, continuing to delight Seattlites and visitors alike.
