Q. How long will an Auto Deck coating last?

A. The life of surface membrane is dependant on the amount of wear the coating receives. All auto deck surfaces wear with traffic including concrete. As a general rule, a high use deck at a shopping mall will have a maintenance free life expectancy of about 5 years in the high wear ramps and turn areas and about 7 to ten years in general parking stalls. Low use parking decks such as an apartment complex where traffic in and out ounce a day will have a life expectancy about twice as long. In either case, maintenance of the wear areas will further extend the useful life.

Q. Why does Gaco Western call for walnut shell as a texturing medium on Auto Traffic Decks?

A. The rubber coatings gain a very strong bond to walnut shell and the shell does not "kick out" as does sand or mineral textures. Although the walnut shell wears down with the deck, the remaining surface is easy to recoat for maintenance. The same is not true for the porous membrane where sand has kicked out.

Q: When is a primer required?

A: Primer is required for metal and concrete.

Q: How long has the AutoDeck system been in use?

A: GacoFlex AutoDeck system has been used in the United States for over 20 years. The AutoDeck system set the standard for long wearing performance in traffic deck waterproofing.

Q: When is a zero VOC coating preferable?

A: Near hospitals and schools, or when a deck is adjacent to workspace. Fumes from solvent-based coating may require that the area be cleared of people. In densely populated urban areas air quality regulations may restrict the use of solvents.
